REMEMBER TO PICK UP YOUR COPY OF SISTER SOULJAH'S 'MIDNIGHT: A GANGSTER LOVE STORY' TODAY!

Alright you fellow Sister Souljah readers! Today is the day. And I'm not just talking about our historical election. I went to the election polls early just so that I'd have ample time to head over to Barnes & Noble this afternoon. In case some of yall forgot, today, November 4th, is the release date of Sister Souljah's most-anticipated sequel of the decade, Midnight: A Gangster's Love Story. It seems like it was just yesterday we were posting back and forth about how anxious we were to read this follow-up to Soujah's The Coldest Winter Ever. I'm hoping Midnight will be as much of a page-turner as its predecessor. Unfortunately though, the folks over a Publishers Weekly don't think so. You all can peep their review below, but any avid book reader never decides to purchase or not buy a book on the strength of other folks reviews, opinions, etc. Well, at least I don't.
Publishers Weekly
Souljah's follow-up to her bestselling novel, The Coldest Winter Ever, is another gritty coming-of-age tale, picking up the story of Midnight (a character in Coldest Winter) as he tries desperately to navigate American culture, Brooklyn streets and the dicey business of growing up. The novel begins as seven-year-old Midnight and his pregnant mother, Umma, are forced to leave their privileged life in Sudan for a hardscrabble American existence. Midnight spends his formative years in Brooklyn guiding and translating for his loyal, loving and talented mother, helping her get a factory job while encouraging her to start a clothing line. Eventually, Midnight starts working at a Chinatown fish shop, finds love, joins a dangerous hustler's basketball league and tries to disentangle his ambivalent feelings toward romance, family and personal honor.

Souljah's sensitive treatment of her protagonist is honest and affecting, with some realistic moments of crisis. Unfortunately, a slack plot and slow pacing cause serious bloat, and Souljah's distinctive prose is woefully unpolished. Frustrations aside, Souljah has obvious talent and sincere motives, making her a street-lit sophomore worth watching.
I also came across another review written by an anonymous black dude from Michigan. I'm not going to tell you all what website the review was posted on because I'm still miffed that his simple ass wrote a review that contained more spoilers than anything else!! Anyhoo, there is an excerpt of the book available on amazon.com that I thought you all would enjoy reading. CLICK HERE TO READ IT.

Also, I found images from the book which I've posted below. We've already discussed our dislike of the cover art on this book, so some of these pics may not surprise you.

CHILLI LOOKS FOR LOVE ON NEW REALITY SHOW; GUYS, R U THE MAN FOR CHILLI?

'FLAVOR OF CHILLI', 'R U THE MAN 4 CHILLI?' Which one sounds better?

About a year ago, I reported that there could possibly be a reality show in the works for Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas of TLC. (Read the last two paragraphs of that post HERE). Looks like I hit the nail on the head, huh? Needless to say, Chilli has been bitten by the reality show bug once again. While her fellow band mate T-Boz will be seen on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice 2 in an effort to raise money for her favorite charities, Chilli will be starring in her own reality show in an effort to find a new love. So, fellas, if you live in the Atlanta area and you think you have what it takes to woo Chilli, here's your chance: The producers of American Idol and executive producer Chilli (The Grammy Award winning member of TLC) are currently searching for Atlanta’s hottest men to compete for a chance at sweeping the sexy artist off her feet.

Good luck, guys. Good luck to her too! I choose to believe Chilli is doing this reality show to promote her upcoming solo project which is why I'd rather see her star in her own reality show along the lines of Salt-n-Pepa's show. Given VH1's notorious reputation with those Flavor/Rock of Love-type celeb-reality shows, I truly refuse to believe that she would agree to put herself out there to find her true love which is why I nearly fell out of my chair when I received the press release in my inbox! We've read and heard in a countless number of interviews--especially after her break-up with Usher over four years ago--the obstacles Chilli has endured in hoping to find what she considers to be the man with the 'complete package' for her. Since her much-publicized split with Usher, who's rumored to be separated from his pregnant wife, she's been allegedly romantically linked to NFL'er Ray Lewis, model Tyson Beckford, actor Hill Harper, CNN anchorman TJ Holmes and most recently big-mouth boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. Even today, the singer is constantly asked about her relationship status and yet she's made no qualms in letting it be known that she is indeed single and definitely on the market.

Last Spring she received praise and criticism when she revealed in an interview with my fellow sister-in-blogging Necole Bitchie she still loves Usher. "I love him very much and I will always love him. I don’t know how you love someone that deeply and just stop loving them. I’m not in love with him anymore but I can’t say that I don’t love him anymore. And of course I do want him to be happy and all but me and him had what I never had in any of my other relationships, and that was chemistry," she said. In that same interview, she also revealed for the first time ever details on her relationship with Marlon Wayans and how she regrets letting him slip away. Many folks thought she was just being thirsty and couldn't let go of the fact that Usher is now married with children while she seemingly jumps in and out of relationships. Others, like myself, commended her for 'keeping it real' and thought there was nothing wrong about her have those types of feelings for her ex.
