NEW PICS: BARACK OBAMA & FAMILY PHOTOSPREAD IN SEPTEMBER 2008 ISSUE OF ESSENCE MAGAZINE.

The Obamas are featured in the September 2008 issue of ESSENCE magazine. According to Essence.com, ESSENCE magazine became the only Black publications who was given a glimpse into the Obamas $1.65 million dollar spacious Hyde Park home on Chicago's Black Southside. In this collector's edition ESSENCE captures Michelle, Barack and their two adorable and darling daughters, 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha at home.

Below are a couple of excerpts from their in-depth article. I thoroughly enjoyed it. To read the entire article, where the Obamas discussed their life on the road, criticism of Michelle, and reaction to Barack's controversial comments about Black men, make a stop at your local newsstand to pick up this issue or subscribe to ESSENCE magazine today by clicking on the ESSENCE banner at the top of this page.

MICHELLE OBAMA ON BARACK AS A FATHER: "The thing that Barack does is that when he is there, he is a parent. He's not like a play dad. He's the guy who has read through all of the Harry Potter books with Malia. Barack is very good about understanding that the kids and their structure and stability are important. And he's somebody who, if there's discipline that needs to be handed down, he doesn't hesitate just because he hasn't seen them in a week."

BARACK OBAMA ON MICHELLE'S 'I'M EVERY WOMAN' STANCE: "Michelle has done a heroic job at managing the house, the family and still finding time to campaign and be out on the road. I'm always marveling at everything that she can do. 'I'm every woman,' he croons. "That's Michelle. It's like, Chaka Khan! Chaka Khan!"

I love the way Michelle is barefoot in that one picture..but she still looks elegant and poised. To me the bare feet is a semblance that even though she may be tired, she still is going to stand by her man and be there for their children. And that's a good look!

I made this known on another site and I'll make it known on this site too. The cover shot of Senator Obama and his family is disrespectful of Michell Obama. I have 30 years in the business and I have never seen such poor quality of work for someone to call themselves a Pro Photographer. The poising of Mrs. Obama is incorrect her knees points towards the camera with her dress hiked, her knees appear to be apart and distorted. The photographer used the wrong lens and Mrs. Obama hands appears to be distorted and large along with her daughters. This is poor and sloppy work and place the blame on the editor and the photographer.

This is a world class family and any family deserves better than this. Shame on you Essence.

SO ESSENCE MAGAZINE IS THE FIRST BLACK MAGAZINE TO FEATURE THE OBAMAS ON THEIR COVER?.....

IF YOU ASK ME ESSENCE SHOULD'VE BEEN THE FIRST MAGAZINE TO HAVE THE OBAMAS ON THE COVER OF....

I MEAN KUDOS AND CONGRATS TO ESSENCE AND WHATNOT BUT THIS FANFARE MEANS NOTHIGN WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT PEOPLE MAGAZINE WERE THE FIRST MAGAZINE TO FEATURE THEM ON THE COVER JUST LAST MONTH.....

IN MY OPINION IT REALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH BRAGGING ABOUT IF ESSENCE WAS THE FIRST...NOT THE SECOND.....

AND I DARE ANYONE TO BITCH ME OUT ABOUT IT.....

i understand Barack's campaigning to become the next prez, but 4 real, i'm getting tired of seeing them e'vrywhere i turned. Can you say 'overexposed'? they're becoming the beyonce and jay-z of the political world.

Beautiful family. Beautiful pictures. Beautiful cover. I know I'm not the only who loves to see a beautiful african-american family portrayed so elegantly.
