VENUS & SERENA WILLIAMS ON WHY THEY WON'T 'BARACK THE VOTE' IN UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

They may have had to take sides on the court during the recent 2008 Wimbledon Championships, but tennis stars and Jehovah's Witnesses Venus and Serena Williams must remain neutral when it comes to politics. "I'm a Jehovah's Witness, so I don't get involved in politics. We stay neutral. We don't vote," Serena says. However, she did admit she is happy about Senator Barack Obama's success thus far and she says she should vote for him "if it wasn't for my religion." Sister Venus says what she does in tennis and when she helps people through UNESCO and other agencies "isn't really political." Jehovah’s Witnesses do not swear allegiance to an organization or nation, cannot join the armed forces, run for political office or vote. Hmph, you learn something new everyday.

In related news, the Williams sisters put Wimbledon in a headlock over the weekend (7.5.2008), with Venus winning the women's singles title over her sister Serena 7-5, 6-4, and both siblings teaming about 3 1/2 hours later to win the doubles championship. "We've both worked really hard this year, and I think the results showed here, both in the singles and the doubles," Venus said after winning the Wimbledon singles title for the fifth time. This is Venus' fifth title at Wimbledon's All England Club, while Serena was looking for her third after wins in 2002 and 2003. "I can't believe it is five because when you are in the final against Serena Williams five seems so far away," Venus said during her post-match interview. "It's unbelievable especially with some of the injuries I have gone through. I love this place." Including the prize money awarded to the singles champion and runner-up, along with what they earned for the doubles championship, the Williams family netted more than $2.5 million Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

The Watchtower came into existence to declare that Jesus had his 'return to power' also known as second coming on October 1914 and this is without proof.

Many of the other Jehovah's Witnesses doctrines are also spurious and false.

Come on Danny!

Here we go again. Would you please go somewhere and read a book. There girls are just trying to serve Jehovah God. You could take a lesson from them.

How faith strengthening it is to see such woman in a difficult spotlight to stand by there faith. It is truly respectable. Regardless if you may agree with or if you do not, at least have respect for them as people.
I am very moved by this firm stand to Jehovah God.
And sir Danny if you do more research and actually have a conversation with one of your local elders at the Kingdom maybe you would be able to understand more fully on where and how this was taken from the bibe.
This coming from a mere 19 year old.
Please try not to be so close minded on such matters.
This is in no way meant to be argumentative, just a statement.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not forbidden by their religion from doing anything. Jehovah's Witness make decisions using their Bible-trained consciences. Serena and Venus say they would've voted if it wasn't for their religion- they have a choice, no one is forcing them not to vote. If you believe what the Bible says at Daniel 2:44, “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite;", then you could reason why vote for an imperfect human when God is bringing a perfect kingdom with his son as a perfect ruler?

Danny Haszard, do you like music? Well I'm sure you've heard of Hank Marvin and you'd be interested to know that he is a Jehovahs witness as well. Why can't you just leave Jehovahs witnesses alone, just because you do not share our beliefs doesn't mean they are wrong. It's people like you that try and push our faiths to the limit but because we spread gods word he helps us get by slanderous comments like yours. And this is coming from a fifteen year old.

Dont forget that Jesus had said to his desiples that they would be hated and discriminated against because they followed him, its the same today the reason why they hate us isnt because they've made the choice in it, it was instilled in their minds, almost programed to hate us, satan has his ways of getting in they way, and not only that individuals are taught by their parents, and their parents parents.

everyone has a choice that they make not to serve Jehovah or to SERVE him and when they choose to do so none should force them to do so it's an informed choice. Serena and Venus made that choice , i made a choice to serve Jehovah. and that means that each day i will read comments like those from Danny Haszard and my response will be if he has ever met a Witness who has never been able to show you christian based answers about his or her beliefs or it is that you have never taken the time to listen with an open mind.
